Fast fashion is the rapid and mass production of inexpensive clothing and it has become an integrated part of western culture due to consumerism and capitalism. Fast fashion contributes to various humanitarian and environmental issues, such as child labor, and the use of extremely harmful chemicals that can harm not only the environment but potentially consumers as well. I wanted address this issue and provide an alternative, so I created a design intervention piece to do just that. I gathered recycled clothing and re-purposed them into bags. I then created informational tags that were attach to the bags explaining the negative impact of fast fashion and encouraged thrifting as an alternative. I then took these bags onto the street and gave them away for free to raise awareness. Peoples reaction to the bags were great and showed me that my intervention was understood and appreciated by the people I met.
